Akademi...the awards in each category are chosen by members of the Akademi. This is basically the same system which is used for the Oscars?some categories where specialist knowledge is required are judged by a selected jury of experts and practitioners in that field. All voting is confidential and the results are tabulated by professional auditors.
Baru...(new) artistes are usually nominated in 3 different categories: male, female and group. These are artists recording for the first time, although some may have been members of other groups which have recorded already. This year all three categories have been combined for Best New Artiste
Cinta...the most popular subject of all the songs.. love
Dangdut...the huge success of the dukes and dangductresses of this SEAsian ska warranted a new category in 98, won by Mas Idayu who is performing at the show this year. Ani Mayuni produced by Iwan won in 99.
Engineers...the unsung heroes...these walking ears listen and record, mix and master, and make sure that the talent gets the best opportunity to be heard faithfully. Our Malaysian engineers are now as good as anyone...they simply lack the experience of working with established global artistes... known to be able to exist on coffee, cigarettes and cash, they are the backbone of our industry
