Female newcomers Juliet the Orange and veteran jazz queen Sheila Majid led the competition with 5 nominations each. If the number of nominations is any indication, then the critically acclaimed duo might just walk out the biggest winner at this year's AIM. As for Sheila, to win or not to win, apparently, is not the question. The singer already made the most-welcome comeback of the year as she was bestowed with nominations in four major categories - Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Female Vocal Performance and Best Musical Arrangement in a Song. Other strong contenders include teenage pop-sensation, Siti Nurhaliza, and rock's old hand, Amy. Both received 3 nominations each. The other highlight was the launching of the AIM 2000 official website. Starting from tomorrow, Cyber Music Asia Sdn Bhd, the official website manager since 1997, will set in motion a series of online events, which include a contest, chat sessions with the nominees, and 'LIVE' e-cast from AIM 2000's backstage on the 14th and 15th of April. The website was launched by the Chairman of the AIM Organising Committee, Encik Ahmad Izham Omar. Also present at the press conference was a representative from Ernst and Young, who have been the auditors for AIM since its inception. The Akademi also announced that ERA and ASTRO RIA will run a contest called 'JANGKAAN AIM 2000' from the 23rd of March until the 14th of April. During this period, music lovers are invited to predict the winner for 'Song of the Year' category and on Monday morning of April 17, ERA FM's deejay, Halim Othman, will announce the grand winner. This year, AIM celebrates its seventh anniversary. The new millennium's first AIM promises to be bigger, louder and better than ever. Until the big night on the 15th of April, AIM 2000 will continue to keep both the nominees and music lovers on tenterhooks.
