In a synchronized effort to further enhance the AIM 2001 awards, Sony Music was appointed to distribute the first ever AIM 2001 compilation album. This is the first time ever an official album of the Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM), since its incorporation back in 1994, has ever been released into the market on April 2, 2001.
Amongst the reasons for the release of this album is to provide music fans with the opportunity to own a uniquely tailored compilation album of artists whom are being nominated for the AIM Awards this year.

The release of AIM 2001 is also in sync with the government's effort to fight the piracy syndrome in this country. In a synchronized effort with the authorities, the album will be sold at RM14.50 (cassette) and RM29.00 (compact disc). The proposed price is extremely affordable as it combines 16 of the best artists and songs in one single album. With this effort, we are hopeful that the public will support the local music industry by purchasing the original cassettes and compact discs.
The government should be accredited for their heroic effort in taking proactive measures to combat piracy in the local music industry in order to ensure the continuity of the creativity and well being of the local music scene.
This album consists of 16 hit songs with an impressive line-up from 16 of the country's most popular artists. All songs in the album have been nominated according to their respective categories for this year's AIM Award. The songs' selection is chosen from the respective artist's albums that had been released between the month of November 1999 and November 2000. This is one of the main prerequisites for the nomination in the AIM 2001. The prestigious Aim Awards will be held on April 28, 2001 at PWTC. Approximately 25,000 albums have been distributed nationwide since April 2, 2001.

Sony Music has planned a few promotional phases for the album, which covers advertising on television and radio stations.
Other than advertising, a consumer contest has also been planned. The contest offers 10 lucky Grand Price winners to own all 16 albums on compact discs from the 16 artists featured in the AIM album. Another 10 lucky winners will have the opportunity to win 10 cassettes of all 16 albums from the 16 artists' individual albums. The contest forms can be obtained through each purchase of the album.
