| . AIM 2001 May Be Pak Ngah's Final Curtain? By Kurniawati Kamarudin 18th April 2001 . |
The emergence of traditional Malay songs (Irama Malaysia) in the local music industry is closely associated with Suhaimi Md Zain or better known as Pak Ngah. His efforts to put Irama Malaysia on equal footing with other music genre is an invaluable contribution.
In the heyday of pop, rock , R & B and dangdut of the early 90s, Pak Ngah's Irama Malaysia managed to capture the hearts of listeners and became a sing-along for local music lovers. In fact, Pak Ngah is considered a pioneer who injected a new breath of life into the Irama Malaysia music scene through Noraniza Idris' Ala Dondang, an album produced by him. Since then, the public is becoming more aware of the beauty of Irama Malaysia which has previously been regarded as too static and only good for bedtime listening.
